What You Should Know Before Considering INVOcell®

Dr. Deborah Smith and our team at Rocky Mountain Fertility Center are well-known for our medical expertise and commitment to personalized care for couples experiencing infertility.

Read why INVOcell® meets Dr. Smith’s rigorous standards as an effective fertility treatment that simplifies the process but offers the same high success rate as traditional in vitro fertilization (IVF).

What is INVOcell?

During traditional IVF, mature eggs are combined with donated sperm for fertilization in our onsite lab here at Rocky Mountain Fertility Center before being transferred to the uterus for further embryonic development.

INVOcell, on the other hand, promotes in vivo (within the body) conception and early embryonic development. Sometimes referred to as a mini-IVF, this FDA-cleared fertility assist relies on an intravaginal device rather than a laboratory incubator to sustain an embryo through its earliest days.

What can I expect during an INVOcell procedure?

The initial stage of INVOcell is much the same as IVF. Depending on the results of your infertility evaluation, Dr. Smith may first prescribe medication that gently stimulates egg production within your ovaries.

Once the eggs are harvested and the donor sperm is collected, they’re transferred together into the patented INVOcell device. This small device, designed for optimal comfort, is immediately placed within the upper vaginal canal. It remains in place for three to five days and provides a highly protective environment for conception and early development.

Following the incubation period, Dr. Smith removes the INVOcell device and carefully examines the developing embryo(s) under a microscope. Then she transfers the selected embryo(s) to the uterus where implantation can occur and pregnancy can proceed.

Other than mild cramping, it’s a relatively painless procedure that offers success rates comparable to traditional IVF.

What are the benefits of INVOcell?

Many couples who choose INVOcell appreciate its more natural approach to fertilization and early embryo development.

Also, the cost savings compared to traditional IVF are significant. That’s mainly because fertilization and initial development take place in vivo rather than in the lab. This eliminates the need for manual fertilization as well as the sophisticated monitoring systems and specialty care required to maintain healthy eggs, sperm, and embryos in the IVF lab.
